Stress-test or refine a task

“It’s almost like creating a perfect recipe. You must be able to measure the results, change the process when needed, and always be on the lookout for better ideas.”

Korbett Miller, De-Mithify: How to create systems in your small business with free online tools!

Consider the ways you currently engage a specific task:

  • What ideal result do you want to achieve?
  • In what way is this task supposed to help achieve that result?
  • Can this task be eliminated?
  • Might you obtain a more effective or efficient result by engaging this task sooner or later in your overall process?
  • Can the task be made part of a canned response, chart, checklist or mindmap?
  • Can this task be automated—viz., via a machine, program or application?
  • Can part or all of the task be outsourced or delegated?
  • Could any tools used as part of this task use an update or upgrade?

This stress-test can be used at various levels of system assessment, from work period to process to phase—even through to portfolio management.
